SCHOLARSHIPS MANAGED & DISTRIBUTED BY THE HF FOUNDATION

Kristina Knoll Martinez and Danny Martinez Scholarship
Kristina Knoll Martinez is a graduate of the Class of 1995  H-F High School.  She and her husband, Danny Martinez are both alumni of the University of Illinois Gies College of Business.  This is their way of helping an H-F graduate earn a degree from their alma mater.

Award: $10,000.00 ($2,500/year for 4 years)

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • H-F Senior enrolled in the University of Illinois Gies College of Business

  • Must maintain a 3.0 GPA while in college to receive the award each year

 

Elyse Bell Girls Golf Scholarship
In memory of Elyse Bell, girls’ golf coach and mother of two H-F graduates
.

Award: $1,000.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School college bound senior who is a member of the girl’s Varsity Golf Team.

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Korean United Methodist Church Scholarship

Award: Two (2) awards of $500.00 each

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School senior with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale

  • Involvement in extracurricular activities.

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Friends of the Library Annual Scholarship

Award: $250.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School senior with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Merit based

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Flossmoor Service League Scholarship

Award: Four (4) awards of $500.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • Financial need is the primary consideration for this scholarship. . Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Funding (FAFSA)

  • Applicant must exhibit academic success

  • Applicant must show participation in school and extracurricular activities.

  • Applicant must show participation in community service

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Homewood-Flossmoor High School Parent Association Scholarship (HFPA)

Award: To Be Determined

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F- High School college bound senior with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.4 or higher on a 4.0 scale

  • Applicant must be a U. S. Citizen or permanent resident

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Funding (FAFSA)

  • The recipient of an HFPA scholarship may not receive any other scholarships administered by H-F High School and The H-F Foundation

  • Submit an essay chosen from one of the following topics:

a. Discuss the importance of diversity on a college campus.

b. Discuss/explain your choice of an intended college major and career aspirations.

c. Discuss/explain characteristics of a leader and the characteristics you possess.

d. Discuss a personal experience that strengthened, changed or enriched your life.

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Bruce Keene Track Scholarship

Award: $3,000.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • Award (check) to be given to the H-F High School graduating senior boy’s Track and Field MVP at the Senior Athletic Awards Banquet.

  • Equally divided if there are Co-MVP’s

  • If there is no MVP in any given year the award will not be given.

Suzanne E. “Nebs” Nebendahl Girls Golf Scholarship
In memory of Suzanne E. (Nebs) Nebendahl

Award: $500.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • Recipient must be an H-F High School Senior on the girl’s golf team planning on attending college.

  • Recipient must demonstrate a passion for golf not merely be a good golfer.

  • The golf coach will select the scholarship recipient

Brian P. Miller Memorial Scholarship
In honor of Brian P. Miller, H-F High School class of 1990

Brian was an enthusiast of anything that moved. As a toddler getting dirty in his dad’s service station to a teenager doing his own vehicle maintenance and helping friends with their vehicle maintenance. He was an average student in high school, though he excelled in both mechanical drafting and Automotive. He competed in regional and state VICA competitions. He refined his skills at Triton College and the ASSET Ford Technical Program. He paid for his schooling on his own with no help and was unable to receive financial aid or student loans. He became an ASE Master Certified Technician and continued on with his career in heavy-duty truck repair. He was killed in October 2009 in a tragic, but preventable work related accident. Offering this scholarship in his memory helps us continue his “do anything for anybody” and pay it forward attitude.

Award: $500.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School senior who is planning to pursue a career in the industrial arts field of study (i.e., automotive, engineering, architecture, construction, machinery, welding).

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

Scott Sims Memorial Scholarship
In memory of Scott Sims, HFHS class 2005

This scholarship is to honor Scott’s love of water polo and all of the many friends he made through the sport. Also to honor his coach Tim Caldwell who made the sport fun.

Award: $1,000.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School senior who is a member of the H-F Water Polo team who will be attending college with a minimum cumulative grade point (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale

  • Scholarship recipient will be selected by the Water Polo Coach and will be presented at the Athletic Awards Ceremony

  • Recipient will demonstrate a passion for the sport and have a positive attitude about life.

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Funding (FAFSA)

The Lowry Family Scholarship

This scholarship is the Lowry Family’s way of giving back to Homewood Flossmoor High School in appreciation for the multiple graduates from H-F in our family. It is our way of helping an H-F student obtain a degree from college.

Award: $2,500 per year for 4 years – resulting in a four-year college degree

Eligibility and Criteria:

  • An H-F High School Senior planning to attend a four-year college or university

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • At least a C+ average

  • History of employment, showing a work ethic with the objective of helping to pay for college expenses

  • Submit an essay: Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Letter(s) of recommendation

  • Requirements for receiving the $2,000.00/year Lowry award for the three remaining years of college:

  • Submit to The HFHS Foundation at the end of each subsequent year in attendance:

  • Continued College issued proof of enrollment for the upcoming school year.

  • Maintaining at least a C+ average while in college. Provide a copy of your College issued grade report.

  • Being a good (not perfect) citizen during your college years.

 

The Kevin F. Maher Memorial Scholarship
In loving memory of Kevin F. Maher, H-F Class of 1995

Award: Two (2) awards of $2,270.00

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • Graduating seniors who are in the upper 60% of the class after their junior year.

  • A four-year college or university must accept the student.

  • Minimum of four semesters at H-F.

  • Two letters of recommendation are required:

  • Preferably the letter(s) should be from a classroom teacher, coach or sponsor you have had at H-F. A second may be from another classroom teacher, a coach, club sponsor, administrator or person outside the H-F community such as a community service coordinator that you have worked with. Family members are excluded.

  • “Give a brief personal history, your reasons for wanting to study your intended major and how it relates to your envisioned career choice”. (You may include a recent experience during your high school career that has impacted your life, represents a challenge or a hardship you might have encountered.)

  • The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Funding (FAFSA)

  • Any student receiving any other financial award or scholarship (not loans) from any other H-F source shall be ineligible for this award.

 

The Rotary Club of Homewood Scholarship

Award: $2,500 per year for 4 years – resulting in a four-year college degree.

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School Senior planning to attend a four-year college or university

  • Financial need will be a consideration. Provide a copy of your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Academic Promise

  • Student who has been involved in service work or volunteering

  • Essay requirement: “Give a brief personal history with an emphasis on community service or volunteering experiences

  • Award winner to meet with the Homewood Rotary Club before leaving for their freshman year and again after each year of the remaining years of the scholarship.

  • Requirements for receiving the $2,000.00/ year Homewood Rotary Club award

For the three remaining years of college:

  • Submit to The HFHS Foundation at the end of each subsequent year in attendance:

  • Continued College issued proof of enrollment for the upcoming school year.

  • Maintaining at least a C+ average while in college. Provide a copy of your College issued grade report.

The GTT Scholarship for Social Excellence

Award: $1,000 

Eligibility & Criteria:

    The GTT Scholarship for Social Excellence is awarded to H-F High School seniors that exemplify the pillars of Peer Leadership, Community Engagement and Global Awareness.  Though academics are important, this scholarship is inclusive of students who demonstrate strong intangible qualities but may be overlooked by scholarship organizations for having average test scores and GPAs.

     In line with the three pillars, applicants should have excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead.  Applicants should have an exhibited dedication to their Homewood-Flossmoor community and plans to engage with the community in the future.  Finally, applicants should show interest in studies of the humanities (the arts, languages, history, etc.) and a desire to expand their perspectives of the world around them.  Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA as a senior.  Academic growth throughout high school will also be taken into consideration in an effort to determine applicants' motivation.

     Those interested should provide a brief statement on why they believe they are suited for this scholarship.  To be considered for reward, students must conduct an interview with the scholarship's creators to discuss the student's future plans.  The recipient must show proof of plans to pursue advanced education.  This may be in the form of a four-year university, community college, or a trade/vocational school.  

The Lighthouse LGBTQ Scholarship

 Lighthouse LGBTQ, In an effort to promote inclusivity and help students in the Homewood-Flossmoor community achieve their full potential, has established this scholarship.  This scholarship will support an LGBTQ student and/or ally that displays a dedication to increasing LGBTQ visibility and improving the lives of those in their community.

Award: $1,000 

Eligibility & Criteria:

  • An H-F High School senior with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5. on a 4.0 scale

  • Acceptance to a two or four year college

  • Submit an essay: The essay should be a minimum of 250 words, 12-point font, double-spaced.

  • The essay should help Lighthouse LGBTQ get to know you as an individual.  Focusing on your values, interests, goals and passions.
